From Binkley’s Restaurant to beer? It’s true.
In a coup, Scottsdale Beer Company brewery and restaurant has hired Justin Olsen, a talent who has been the right-hand man of James Beard Award-nominated chef Kevin Binkley for the last five years.
Olsen got his start at Binkley’s Restaurant in Cave Creek and Cafe Bink in Carefree, and most recently was in charge of Bink’s Midtown in Phoenix and Bink’s Scottsdale.
Simply put, the chef was juggling a lot, having led the opening of Bink’s Midtown and Bink’s Scottsdale in March and December 2013, respectively.
“Kevin is my mentor and a good friend of mine, and I owe him a lot for my development as a chef and person,” Olsen said. “But I have a family, and needed to find more balance between work and home in my life.”
Still, he sees plenty of opportunity to continue growing as a chef in his new position at Scottsdale Beer Company. “The beer and atmosphere here are awesome, and the food has been pretty solid from the get go,” Olsen said. “I just hope to improve upon that.”
